Internship Spotlight

Special Collections was pleased to welcome SDSU senior Jeannie Higbee as an intern for Fall 2008. Under the supervision of archivist Ellen Jarosz, Jeannie completed a processing internship using the Pandora Rose Environmental Activism Collection. This valuable collection documents three decades of the work of the Mountain Defense League and of its president from 2003 to 2008, Pandora Rose.

Jeannie's favorite part of the internship was the strong sense of accomplishment she felt upon seeing her completed collection, knowing the state it had been in and what she had done to make it physically and intellectually usable. Jeannie liked the internship so much that she says she is planning to "look around for a school with a great MLS program, then going for my master's!" Thank you, Jeannie, for a tremendous job well done.

The processing internship teaches archival theory and basic concepts of arrangement, description, and preservation using one of our unprocessed manuscript or archival collections. Internships for students can also focus on reference and public service, exhibits, or outreach. Please contact us for more information if you know of a promising, hard-working student ready for a challenge!
